In June 2008 the Royal Navy's flagship HMS Ark Royal docked in Liverpool's brand new City Liner Terminal. This 20,000-tonne behemoth was a very impressive sight and dwarfed everything around it.
The ship was at the city for four sunny days and attracted huge crowds to the waterfront. With the sheer size of the ship and it's relatively close proximity to the crowds it proved very difficult for photographers to get a good shot. Local newspapers, the BBC and pro and amateur photographers chose to shoot the aircraft carrier from the Wirral side of the Mersey. Although some images were good taken part of the Liverpool skyline, it was Tangent 360 who shot it in all it's glory.
getting to the front of the crowds was a challenge in itself but once there we shot eight photos at 50mm and stitched them into the picture you see above. The full size image is 10830 x 3816 pixel resolution is large enough to be printed onto a 60" wide canvas.
